Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
Verbeli is a browser extension that replaces some words on the web pages you read with their translation in a language you are learning. This policy explains what data Verbeli handles, where it goes, and what you can do about it. Verbeli is operated by PE Mykhailo Stolovych, Ukraine ("we", "us"). Contact: privacy@verbeli.com.
The short version
- Pages you read are processed on your device. In the free version, no page content ever leaves your browser.
- If you use Premium (or its trial), Verbeli sends one short, redacted sentence around each swapped word to our server so an AI model can choose the right meaning. Emails, links and numbers are removed first.
- An account needs only your email address. Payments are handled by Paddle; we never see your card.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell data.
Data that stays on your device
To work, the extension needs permission to read the text of the pages you visit. It does this locally to decide which words to swap. The following is stored only in your browser's extension storage:
- Your settings: languages, how many words to swap, excluded sites, interface language and theme.
- Your learning progress: which words you are learning or know and when to review them.
- Dictionaries bundled with the extension.
- If you sign in: a session token that keeps you signed in.
Removing the extension deletes this data. Verbeli reads only the visible text of a page: it never reads what you type into form fields or editable areas, and it does not run on sites you exclude.
Data we receive
Account. If you create an account, we store your email address, a random user ID, whether and when you started a trial, and your subscription status. To sign you in we email a 6-digit code; we store only a hash of it, and it expires after 10 minutes. Sign-in sessions use tokens we store only as hashes; they expire after 60 days of inactivity or when you sign out.
Premium context translation. While Premium or the trial is active, for each swapped word the extension sends the word, its dictionary form, the language pair, and up to about 100 characters on each side of it from the same sentence. Email addresses, web addresses and numbers are removed on your device, and removed again on our server. We do not receive the page address or anything else from the page. The redacted sentence is passed to the AI model, and the result (the chosen translation) is cached for 30 days under a one-way hash of the request so repeat requests are free; the sentence itself is not stored. We keep a per-account count of requests for each day, for 48 hours, to enforce fair-use limits.
Payments. Paddle.com is the merchant of record for Premium and collects your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy. Paddle tells us your subscription status and a customer ID, which we store to give you access.
Server logs. Our hosting provider processes IP addresses to deliver requests and protect against abuse. To rate-limit sign-in attempts we keep a per-IP-address counter that expires automatically after 2 hours; IP addresses are not stored in our database.
This website
verbeli.com has no cookies, analytics or trackers. To open the live demo on a language pair that suits you, the page asks our server which country your IP address is in; only the two-letter country code is returned to your browser, and nothing is stored. Your theme and demo language choices are saved only in your browser's local storage.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare — hosts our server, database and cache.
- Google (Gemini API) — the AI model for Premium context translation. We use Google's paid API tier, under which Google does not use requests to improve its products.
- Resend — sends sign-in emails.
- Paddle — checkout, billing, tax and invoices.
These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How we use data, and legal bases
- To provide the service you asked for: sign-in, Premium translations, subscriptions (performance of a contract).
- To prevent abuse and keep the service running, e.g. rate limits (legitimate interests).
- To meet tax and accounting duties for purchases, via Paddle (legal obligation).
We do not use your data for advertising, do not build profiles, and do not sell or share it except with the processors above. Data received through the extension is used only to provide its features, in line with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Retention
- Account and subscription records: while your account exists.
- Sign-in codes: 10 minutes. Sessions: up to 60 days.
- Cached translation results: 30 days. Daily usage counters: 48 hours.
- Payment and tax records held by Paddle: as required by law.
Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by emailing privacy@verbeli.com from the address on your account. You can also delete your account yourself at any time: open the extension, then Delete account. Deletion removes your email, trial and subscription records from our database immediately and cancels any active subscription so you are not charged again. Daily usage counters expire on their own within 48 hours, and Paddle keeps the billing records the law requires. If you are in the EU, UK or a similar jurisdiction, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Verbeli is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 where local law requires), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above, and for significant changes we will tell you in the extension or by email.
